The Asia Pacific region will have the largest share of total smartphone traffic in 2021, driven by the sheer number of mobile subscriptions. In 2021, the region will represent half of all global mobile phone accounts.
In the next five years, monthly smartphone data consumption per active subscription in North America (22 GB) will be 1.2 times that of Western Europe (18 GB) and three times that of Asia Pacific (7 GB).
Asia Pacific will have the largest share of mobile data traffic in 2021, due to it being the most populous region and a rapid growth in subscriptions. China alone will add 260 million mobile subscriptions by 2021.
