As big a problem as indoor mobile signal reception now is, the magnitude of the problem means significant resources will be devoted to fixing the problem. Those approaches will include Wi-Fi, IP voice support, multiple-input, multiple-output radios, spectrum refarming, use of femtocells, private LTE or neutral host networks (premises networks that are open to use by multiple mobile services, for example).
Today’s in-building carrier solutions include Distributed Antenna Systems for stadiums and airports, built by carriers or the venues. Single carrier small cells often are built by a single carrier in a building with no mobile reception or to support buildings with sporadic or poor coverage.
Multi-carrier small cells (neutral host) now are proposed as ways to create a single network supporting all or many carriers.
